I got to spend some time with Lydia this last weekend. Gosh, she is getting fluffy. She is looking so healthy. She didn't look unhealthy before but it's amazing how just a few weeks of good food and a warm bed to sleep in can improve a dog's look.
She is a wonderful little dog. Her foster dad, Bob, has been working with her on a few commands such as sit, down, shake, high five and roll over. They've been practicing just a few minutes each day and she's understanding very quickly. You can see some of her tricks in the video linked below.
She is good with all the other pets in her foster home including three other dogs and a couple cats. She is a young a playful girl and will try to get the other dogs to play with her. Mickey, the shihtzu, will play for a bit but when he's finished Lydia is very good about making her own fun. She does not pester Mickey at all and will find a toy and will entertain herself. Her foster family says she's so cute when she plays. She lays on her back and will hold the toy in her feet and play with it.
Lydia does all her potties outside. She's adapted well to her foster family's schedule. Her foster family has 5 acres but no fence so Lydia goes out on a leash. She is good about doing her business quickly.
When Lydia first meets someone or when her foster family gets home from being out she enthusiastically greets them. She doesn't bark, just showers the person with hugs and kisses. If this is all you saw of Lydia you might think she's a high energy girl but that's not the case. She's really a lap dog and enjoys lots of cuddle time. You can see many pictures of her cuddle sessions below. She is an affectionate girl who loves people. She follows her foster mom and dad throughout the house during the day.
Lydia sleeps quietly in her crate at night. She goes in there easily at bed time. Her foster family does not hear a peep from her all night.
She went to the vet last week for a nail trim. Every girl needs a pedicure now and then. She was very good at the vet and very good in the car. Lydia loves car rides and her foster family tells me that she is very relaxed and comfortable in the car.
I do think Lydia would do well in just about any home environment. House, condo, kids, no kids, dogs, cats or by herself. As long as she has a human companion for cuddle sessions and some toys for her playful side I think she will thrive.
Thanks for considering rescue! See pictures and video below and also see prior blog posts for even more.
